Bike Joy. Spontanious Family Portrait Photography- Seattle, WA.

Some things have changed a lot since I was a toddler: technology for sure. Kid’s toys look so sophisticated these days and they are equipped with many gadgets. One thing stays the same though: The Joy of Playing! When I was making this family portrait recently, the tricycle came along with few other toys to use as props. It was an early morning photography session and when the frost on the Kirkland dock was almost gone, the trike came to the scene and Chloe’s face lit up and a permanent smile appeared. While I was photographing her speeding up, slowing down, smiling and being cautioned by her watchful parents my own memories of  biking as a child came into mind. I know that my bike riding days were the most powerful times for me. That was the first time I tasted being free, going fast and taking chances on my own. Back then, bike helmets were not “in vogue” yet…. Hey, Chloe, BTW where is your helmet since The Times have changed, indeed?!

Gas Works Park family portrait photography – Seattle, WA

Gas Works Park in Seattle is a public park that offers so much for a family photographer. Kids love its hills, rusty pipes, colorful walls, railings, stairs, and huge leaves that fall down in Autumn time. I enjoy photographing there and over the years I have acquired many images of kids and families while working in that historic location. Here are  just a few of them to illustrate how varied the park is with its backdrops and things to do for busy toddlers including watching practicing skateboarders and wandering geese…

Harley Davidson Family

Harley Davidson Family. (Seattle Family Photography).

This Family are repeat clients. I photographed a wedding within this Family, then a brand new child that they so awaited and few days ago a celebration of the Grandparents and their long marriage. Those guys are Harley Davidson riders. They are fun people. They love their dogs. They love their kids. They love their wheels dearly. I had a permanent grin on my face while photographing them during the latest photo session involving the entire family and The Harleys. After the work was done, I received a check and …. a bottle of primo Chopin Vodka. They know I am Polish. Whatever that means… Here is the preview from the photo session I so enjoyed:

Post Scriptum

After the photos were delivered, my Client wrote me a note:

“I love the photos and it is hard to pick a favorite. I really like one of my mom and her dog. It is so hard to get my mom to smile, and you really captured her. Also, the ones of my mom and dad on the motorcycle. They have really enjoyed their motorcycling days and it is nice to capture that as well. My dad just put his motorcycle up for sale, a hard thing for him to do. But, he has some vision issues and is concerned. I am so happy we were able to do the session when we did. Also love the group shots…. and ones of me. Like the jpg you sent me last! Thank you again Anita for your creative eye, and patience to work with the group”.  Susanne

Family Photography on Alki Beach, Seattle. (Family Photos in Seattle).

This was the busiest family photo session, ever. We run. We chased. And we chased some more. Kingsley’s parents brought along many props: magnificent sunflowers, balloons, bubbles, a guitar, a lollipop (a huge one). We used all of them while composing images and also those that we found as we photographed: for instance an old armchair left behind on the beach. We started off with filtered, milky, even light, then we kept working with a golden Autumn sun. After we parted I was exhausted, however, I knew I captured many images from various angles that were worth the chase, the running and and the play…..

Photographing with an open mind. (Seattle Family Photography).

Each time I photograph  families (even though I have many years behind me as a photographer) I face an almost a paralyzing thought: “what if I never find a light or ambiance to make it happen”… Then I consciously enter a mind compartment that stores openness about it all and things start to unfold: with each exposure I get excited with the light, with angles, with the way children walk, smile, say their things and all gets rolling just fine.

Seattle Volunteer Park

Seattle Doughnut. (Seattle Family Photography).

Yesterday I had a family session with repeat clients of mine. Everything worked with ease: the light was beautiful, the kids were in a great spirit, the parents were stylish. Towards the end of the session, the entire family was “pushing” the Seattle Doughnut. Tim encouraged his older daughter to keep pushing. At some point, she looked at him perplexed and said: “Daddy, it is attached.”

Mother and Child Photography

Elegance of a Mother. Seattle Newborn Photography.

It was a photo session with a Mother and her Newborn daughter. We chose a Shilshole Beach in Seattle, WA for a location. The sun was being filtered through the clouds. The child needed to be fed. I photographed, and the crow walked into the image frame. While the breeze picked up few times, it was a quiet moment between us and that crow.

Recent, Summer work. Seattle Family Photography.

It has been a busy Summer with Seattle Family Photography. I will be creating separate blog posts for each Family. In the meantime, however, selected few images here, along with a link to one session that took place on Alki Beach (in one spot, lasted an hour, was filled with ideas, creative energy and “meant to be moments”):
