When to Book Your Senior Portraits
Here’s something a lot of families don’t realize: senior portraits don’t have to wait until spring of your senior year. In fact, most of my senior sessions happen in late spring through fall of the year before graduation — while the weather’s warmer, schedules are lighter, and there’s more flexibility to pick the perfect date and location. Booking early also means your photos are ready in time for yearbook deadlines (which often land earlier in the school year than people expect) and for any graduation announcements you want to send out. That said, if you’re a true procrastinator, we can still make winter or early-spring sessions work — Seattle has great light and moody backdrops year-round.

One of my favorite parts of shooting senior portraits in Seattle is how much the city and surrounding areas change throughout the year. Summer brings lush greenery and long golden-hour light. Fall gives us rich color and moody, atmospheric backdrops. Even winter has a quiet, cinematic quality that works beautifully for a more editorial look. Wherever you are in the school year when you reach out, there’s a great season to shoot in — this isn’t a photo session with a single “right” time of year.

Sessions typically run 60–90 minutes and include multiple outfit changes and locations if you’d like. We’ll talk beforehand about what you’re picturing — casual and candid, polished and classic, or something more editorial — and I’ll help you pick locations around Seattle that fit. You’ll get a private online gallery to choose your favorites from, with a fast turnaround so you’re not scrambling to meet a yearbook or announcement deadline.

Graduation-day photos (cap and gown, ceremony) are a separate, much shorter shoot closer to graduation itself.
How many outfit changes can I have?
Most seniors bring about 3-5 outfits for their sessions. Outfits range from really dressy (think prom dresses!) to uber casual (like skateboarding attire.) It all depends on your style. Stay true to your personal style. Always.
